Are you looking for ways to increase the health of your body by enhancing your bodies’ ability to fight against illness? Have you ever tried Hyberbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?

We are here to tell you how you can benefit from Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). If you are not familiar with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, divers use it to treat air embolisms. Air embolisms are air bubbles that form in the blood. It usually happens after a dive.

Medical studies now reveal that the same Hyberbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) divers do can also minimize bodily illnesses through oxygen saturation. If you have areas of the body that become oxygen deprived frequently, you can greatly benefit from HBOT.

HBOT is performed inside a hyperbaric chamber where 100% oxygen is pumped at a higher than normal atmospheric rate and pressure.  Normally, oxygen moves through your body by being transported by your red blood cell to areas where blood flow lacks, such as your central nervous system fluids, bones, and ligaments.

For someone who has had a recent injury with, for example, a shoulder or knee can really benefit from HBOT. HBOT can allow oxygen to reach damaged areas and tissues to help your body heal faster. The benefits get even better by the increase oxygen flow enhancing your white blood cells ability to kill bacteria, reduce inflammation and help enhance the growth of blood vessels to grow more rapidly in injured areas. HBOT can do this amazing work because it gives your body more than adequate oxygen levels to heal correctly and naturally.

For more great benefits of HBOT read this article by Ehow.com.

If you want to try out this fabulous therapy and reap the benefits, come try It’s About Health Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber! Let us help you accelerate cellular renewal, decrease swelling and inflammation of your body injuries, increase your body’s ability to fight infections and so much more!

As we have blogged about before, there are Many Benefits of Sleep. But what if you just can’t seem to get a full night of sleep, no matter what you do. Well, you’re not alone. 40 million Americans suffer from long-term sleep disorders, while 20 million claim to experience occasional sleep problems. In fact, the average American only gets 6 hours and 40 minutes of sleep per night.

And if you are wondering, “well, what falls into the category of a sleeping disorder/problem,” then take a look at this…

There are more than 70 different sleep disorders, which are generally classified into one of three categories:

- lack of sleep (e.g., insomnia),

- disturbed sleep (e.g., obstructive sleep apnea)

- excessive sleep (e.g., narcolepsy).

In most cases, these sleep disorders can be easily managed. But before you go rushing to the drug store to buy some over-the-counter remedy, take a look at this article from Health.com, which provides 8 natural sleep remedies.

1.    Magnesium and calcium: Magnesium and calcium are both sleep boosters, and when taken together, they become even more effective. Plus, by taking magnesium, you cancel out any potential heart problems that might arise from taking calcium alone. Take 200 milligrams of magnesium—lower the dose if it causes diarrhea—and 600 milligrams of calcium each night.

2.    Wild lettuce: If you’ve suffered anxiety, headaches, or muscle or joint pain, you might already be familiar with wild lettuce. It’s also effective at calming restlessness and reducing anxiety—and may even quell restless legs syndrome. When using a wild-lettuce supplement, take 30 to 120 milligrams before bed.

3.    Hops: Beer fans will no doubt be familiar with the calming effect of hops, the female flowers used in beer making. For sleep purposes, though, this extract has been widely used as a mild sedative for anxiety and insomnia. Take 30 to 120 milligrams before climbing under the covers.

4.    Aromatherapy: Lavender is the trick here, as studies have proven that it aids in sleep. It’s also a cheap, nontoxic way to slip into a peaceful slumber. Find a spray with real lavender and spritz it on your pillow before bedtime. Or buy a lavender-filled pillow.

5.    Melatonin: Melatonin is the hormone that controls sleep, so it’s no wonder that it naturally induces sleep. Although some experts recommend taking higher doses, studies show that lower doses are more effective. Plus, there’s concern that too-high doses could cause toxicity as well as raise the risk of depression or infertility. Take 0.3 to 0.5 milligrams before bed.

6.    Yoga or meditation: Choose gentle yoga or stretching, not vigorous power or ashtanga yoga, which could energize you instead. Try easy yoga stretches in bed followed by simple meditation. Close your eyes and, for 5 to 10 minutes, pay attention to nothing but your breathing.

7.    L-theanine: This amino acid comes from green tea and not only helps maintain a calm alertness during the day but also a deeper sleep at night. However, green tea doesn’t contain enough L-theanine to significantly boost your REM cycles. Besides, you might then wake up to go to the bathroom. Instead, buy a brand called Suntheanine, which is pure L-theanine. (Other brands have inactive forms of theanine that block the effectiveness.) Take 50 to 200 milligrams at bedtime.

8.    Valerian: Valerian is one of the most common sleep remedies for insomnia. Numerous studies have found that valerian improves deep sleep, speed of falling asleep, and overall quality of sleep. However, it’s most effective when used over a longer period of time. One caveat? About 10% of the people who use it actually feel energized, which may keep them awake. If that happens to you, take valerian during the day. Otherwise, take 200 to 800 milligrams before bed.

So next time you find yourself counting sheep to no avail, why not try one of these natural sleep remedies. If you have any questions, contact It’s About Health by calling 410-461-6060 or click here today!

Stress occurs when you are faced with a tough challenge. In small doses, stress can actually be good for you; it keeps you alert and gives you increased bursts of energy. However, too much stress can take a real toll on your mental and physical health.

This article from WomensHealth.gov explains the causes of stress, how to identify if you are stressed, and provides several techniques for dealing with your stress.

The most common causes of stress are: death of a loved one, divorce, losing your job, major personal illness or injury, marital separation, marriage, pregnancy, and retirement.

Warning signs of stress include: not eating or eating too much, feeling like you have no control, needing to have too much control, forgetfulness, headaches, lack of energy, lack of focus, trouble getting things done, poor self-esteem, short temper, trouble sleeping, upset stomach, back pain, general aches and pains.

Stress can cause several negative health effects including: Mental health disorders – like depression and anxiety, obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, abnormal heart beats, menstrual problems, and acne/skin problems.

Here are a few tips to help you deal with your stress:

1) Identify the things that put you under stress. The first thing you’re going to do is to try to identify and think about things that stress you and why they do as well.

2) Put your mind off it. Simply try not to think of the things that give you stress, think about other things you LIKE.

3) Play sports. Playing sports is a great way of having fun it also makes you happy when playing it and helps you forget things. Exercise helps release natural endorphins.

4) Be flexible. Sometimes, it’s not worth the stress to argue. Give in once in awhile or meet people halfway.

5)Join a yoga class. It will REALLY get you relaxed.

6) Sleep for 7 to 9 hours. A good night’s sleep is very important.

7) Listen to calm and soft music. I t really gets relaxed and happy try listen to music with no vocals and pick music with instruments like the flute , piano…

8 ) Relax…

•     Take deep breaths. If you’re feeling stressed, taking a few deep breaths makes you breathe slower and helps your muscles relax.

•     Stretch. Stretching can also help relax your muscles and make you feel less tense.

•     Massage. Having someone massage the muscles in the back of your neck and upper back can help you feel less tense.

•     Take time to do something you want to do. We all have lots of things that we have to do. But often we don’t take the time to do the things that we really want to do. It could be listening to music, reading a good book, or going to a movie. Think of this as an order from your doctor, so you won’t feel guilty!

9) Set limits. When it comes to things like work and family, figure out what you can really do. There are only so many hours in the day. Set limits for yourself and others. Don’t be afraid to say NO to requests for your time and energy.

10) Eat right. Try to fuel up with fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains. Don’t be fooled by the jolt you get from caffeine or high-sugar snack foods. Your energy will wear off, and you could wind up feeling more tired than you did before.

11) Never deal with stress in unhealthy ways. This includes drinking too much alcohol, using drugs, smoking, or overeating.

Having keen memory is a must when you are on the job, taking classes and when you want to remember your best friend’s favorite band before they broke up this year. It’s that special repository that aggregates all of those personal, humerous and even serious facets of your  life in a tightly woven photo album, that only you can view.

Hitherto, ways to jog memory was exercise, taking prescription pills or repeating information multiple times. Now, adding natural vitamins to your  goes a long way with aggrandizing one’s memory.

This article from EHow.com delves into specific vitamins that enhances and regulates memory holding functions of the brain. So here’s a slew of vitamins that improve, retain and strengthen memory over time.

Vitamin B6

Having problems with memory loss? Fear not, vitamin B6 is known for reducing memory loss, helps create neurotransmitters in the brain.

Vitamin E

This same vitamin has been reported as a great way to ward off Alzheimers and as a way to enhance memory and reduce memory loss in the elderly, who already have cognitive diseases. Vitamin E is also a strong antioxidant and it keeps your entire body oxygenated, which is beneficial for your entire body.As we age, memory alertness tends to dim down but by taking more doses of this vitamin, it assists it.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Aside from Vitamin E, Omega-3 Fatty Acids have also proven to help reduce people’s risks of getting Alzheimers disease. Previous research has linked these acids to ameliorating the overall function of the brain.

Vitamin B12

A theory has been formulated that having a higher level of B12 in one’s body, directly relates to scoring higher on memory tests. It’s good to stock up on this vitamin now, since when one gets older, it’s much harder to retain the vitamin in one’s system. Therefore,  a correlation is found with  older people having an arduous time remembering past events.

Often times many diets lack in vitamins so it’s optimal to take vitamins daily. Many of these vitamins we carry and you can purchase today. We try to carry the best kinds of vitamins that aid, alleviate and  facilitate people’s best faculties and facilities.

Although genetic factors play an important role in the size and density of your bones, other factors come into play as well, including: proper nutrition and exercise. A good diet includes sufficient calories and adequate protein, fat and carbohydrates, as well as vitamins and minerals – particularly vitamin D and the mineral calcium. As children, a good diet helps to build peak bone mass, while as adults a proper diet helps to preserve bone mass and strength, warding off osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is a chronic, debilitating disease whereby the density and quality of bone are reduced. The bones become porous and fragile, the skeleton weakens, and the risk of fractures greatly increases. The loss of bone occurs “silently” and progressively, often without symptoms until the first fracture occurs, most commonly at the wrist, spine and hip. Approximately one out of three women over 50 will have a fracture due to osteoporosis (more than breast cancer) as will one out of five men over 50 (more than prostate cancer).

Yet proper nutrition and exercise are not always enough. Sometimes we need an extra boost to our diets. In these cases, a nutritional supplement, like OsteoLife Plus, is a great addition.

OsteoLife has been scientifically proven to lessen bone density and mineral loss in individuals, as well as slow the development of osteoporosis.

Aaaaaah…

Saunas can be so relaxing. But did you know that they actually have some pretty important health benefits as well? As this article from EzineArticles.com explains, researchers have found that infrared saunas can be very beneficial as medical, as well as relaxation, tools.  These health benefits include:

Sauna helps with muscle pains by relaxing tired muscles

Infrared saunas can help to relieve muscle tension after tough workouts. Furthermore, saunas have been proven to temporarily relieve arthritic pain. At high temperatures, our bodies produce endorphins, which naturally fight pain. Also, high temperature causes the increase of circulation rate, which also helps with soothing muscular pains.

Sauna is good for lowering high blood pressure

The heat expands your blood vessels, thus increasing blood circulation and relieving high blood pressure. Although this effect is only temporary, there is medical evidence to suggest that weekly use can help manage blood pressure levels.

Sauna heart benefits

When you use a sauna, your blood vessels get wider while you are exposed to heat, but contact afterward. This helps them stay more elastic and generally healthy. Also your heart rate increases from normal (about 60 per minute) to 110 per minute or even more, depending on how intense is the heat. This gives your heart quite an “exercise” without going to the gym.

Saunas have a weight loss effect

See our previous blog for an in-depth look at this health benefit.

Detox effect of sauna

What do you do in high temperatures? You sweat. What does sweating do? It opens up your pores. This helps your body expel toxins.

“Following rotator cuff surgery, I exhausted the limits of physical therapy allowed by my insurance carrier for the calendar year. I knew something else needed to be done, as my range of motion was only 75-80% and my recovery incomplete. Beginning the IonCleanse program at It’s About Health, LLC., I observed a huge amount of bright orange color in the water bath each time as I began a treatment. Today I am pleased to confirm that the joint in my right arm now has complete and full rotation and that I have no need of further physical therapy!”

“The energy in the office itself just picks me right up after a long stressful day at work. Not only are Jed and Dr. Kay extremely knowledgeable, they are just so full of life and warmth.”

Susan B.

In today’s fast-paced, high stress world, we all have a lifetime of toxins built up in our bodies. These are substances that are ingested (alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, refined sugar), inhaled (pesticides, heavy metals from cosmetics, cigarette smoke, dry cleaning and other chemicals) or internally produced (hormonal by-products). Pimples, rashes, dark circles under the eyes, swollen joints, blotchy complexions, arthritis and every day aches and pains often indicate a buildup of toxins in the body.

The IonCleanse detoxification system has been proven to substantially reduce symptoms of this unavoidable “toxic overload” through a series of detox sessions.

Simply relax with your feet in water for about 30 minutes. The procedure is painless and comfortable. We use a basin containing sea salt dissolved in purified water and then place an electrical unit, called an array, in the water. The array generates alternating positive and negative ions around the feet. The ions enter the body through your feet and begin neutralizing the toxins.

Everyone asks the same question. Why the feet? Well, the largest pores in your body are located in your feet allowing for the greatest release of toxins in the shortest amount of time.

You will see the results in “living color” within minutes. Reading the water’s color change is diagnostic of what the patient releases. For instance, when the footbath color turns orange, the patient is releasing joint toxins. Brown water indicates a toxin dump from the liver, whereas flecks of black in the water demonstrate release of heavy metals. Not a pretty rainbow, but one that illustrates your body is getting rid of the toxins that are causing you health problems. Some benefits our patients have experienced with the IonCleanse include:

- Increased energy

- Decreased allergy symptoms

- Clearer skin

- Improved sleep patterns

- Weight loss

- Increased circulation
